Oatmeal Creams for Larger Burn Care At times, we may just have a small burn that happens whenever we have something hot splash onto us, or perhaps we touch something that is hot. At other times, however, a mild burn may cover much larger area, such as whenever we spill something hot on ourselves or if we are overexposed to the sun. Whenever this is the case, we would want to make sure that we are taking special care in order to treat the area as quickly and effectively as possible. One way for you to be able to do this is by applying oatmeal to the area. I would like to say, before I begin discussing applying oatmeal that it is important for you to be able to recognize the difference between a mild burn and a severe burn. Burns are generally rated according to three different types, first and second degree being the more mild and third degree being severe. If the area is just red, you probably have a first degree burn and it will be possible for you to treat it at home. If large blisters occur, or if the area appears charred or damaged, you may have a second or third degree burn and this needs to be treated by a medical professional. In the case of first degree burns and sunburn, it is possible for you to treat the area and to soothe it effectively by using an oatmeal cream. You can purchase oatmeal at the store and it is relatively inexpensive. As a matter of fact, you can generally mix up enough of this oatmeal in order to cover rather large area for just a few dollars. Make sure that you get the regular oatmeal, not the instant oatmeal that you'll find in the same area. The instant oatmeal is typically processed to the point where it does not have any health benefits at all. The real key to making an oatmeal cream for sunburn is to make it thin enough that you will be able to spread it readily. The reason why this is the case, is because you would not want to further irritate the area by spreading on something that is too thick and trying to get it to stick to the skin. A regular oatmeal cream will stick readily and it will provide soothing relief immediately, along with some benefits that will help you to overcome the burn permanently.
